Day 1 Athens

Your 8-day dream journey begins. From the airport, transfer to the ship for check-in at the port of Piraeus. If you arrive early enough, you will have the opportunity to explore Athens on a city tour or walking tour. The evening is spent enjoying a first dinner together on deck. As you cast off, enjoy the scenery of Athens at night. We head towards Monemvasia, a small island, which we reach the next day around 9:00 am.

From now on, time passes more slowly, your vacation at sea begins!

Day 2 Monemvasia

After breakfast on board you will visit Monemvasia.

Monemvasia means “one entrance” as there is only one way to reach the city, which made it a natural fortress in the Middle Ages. Be enchanted by the charm of a fortress built into a mountain. When you enter the town, it feels as if you are transported back to the Middle Ages. You have plenty of time to wander through the romantic little streets of the old town. Cozy cafes, bars and stores invite you to linger. Our speedboat on board makes it possible to take you individually ashore and back again during our island excursions.

You can also just enjoy the atmosphere on board, swim or water ski. At 14:00 we set sail towards Methodi. Over dinner on board, we look forward to our first day of golf, playing Costa Navarino’s new course, Hills West.

Day 3 Methoni

Around 8:00 we anchor off Methoni. After a good breakfast you can enjoy the atmosphere on board, swim or water ski. Or you can take the opportunity to see the sights of the small town, which was already mentioned in Homer’s Iliad as Pedasos. Modern Methoni was rebuilt inland after its destruction and has well-preserved city walls and a fortress from the Baroque period. The landmark is the Burtzi, a sea tower with a prominent dome.

Around 12:00 we drive about 20 minutes anxiously to the first golf course of the famous Greek golf destination Costa Navarino, the new Hills West Course. This beautifully designed course is located in the mountains of the Peleponnes and offers fascinating views of the bay of Pylos.

Our golf luggage remains at the club and is ready for us on the next two days on the respective course.

Around 19:00 the signal sounds to raise anchor and we leave for Pylos while we dine in the restaurant.

Day 4 Pylos

In the morning we reach Pylos. Today we go to the second new golf course, the Hills East Course of the famous Greek Golf Club Costa Navarino. This course was also designed by golf legend Jose Maria Olazabal.

Because our ship stays overnight in the harbor of Pylos, you can explore the small harbor town with its steep streets and great atmosphere. In the evening you will have dinner in a typical Greek harbor taverna, of course directly at the sea. Afterwards you can end the evening with cocktails at the Ocean Bar, which is at our disposal 24 hours a day.

Day 5 Pylos

After a nice and sociable evening in the old and romantic harbor of Pylos, we will have a hearty breakfast and head to the Bay Course of the Costa Navarino Golf Club, built by Robert Trent Jones. Some holes directly along the sea symbolize the Mediterranean flair of this special course.

In the newly built clubhouse you can enjoy the great view of the idyllic bay of Pylos with a cool drink after your round.

With the transfer we go together with our golf luggage back to the ship, where we depart around 19:00 to make our way to Zakintos.

Day 6 Zakynthos and sailing

Again a varied breakfast awaits us on board. At 9:00 am we reach the hilly and southernmost Ionian island of Greece, which was called the Flower of the East because of its lush vegetation. Today it is known for its marine national park for the protection of sea turtle nesting sites.

We will anchor in front of the island. There is an opportunity for an individual shore leave to enjoy the flair of the capital of Zakynthos, which is laid out in the form of an ancient theater.

Stroll through the town with its galleries, cafes and taverns.

Just enjoy the atmosphere on board, swim or go kayaking. At about 17:00 we set sail and head towards the Corinth Canal.

You can relax on board and look forward to a good dinner. Sailing is now on the agenda. Relax in the Jacuzzi or with a cool drink at the Oceanbar.

The evening on board belongs to the Captain’s Dinner.

Day 7 at sea

Sea day – Corinth Canal

This day is dedicated to sailing, regenerating and recovering. Today the crew will spoil us with a breakfast, a lunch, an extensive coffee time and a varied dinner. On board interesting activities are offered like mast climbing, learning knots, exploring the engine room or steering the ship yourself for once. During a putting challenge on the Running on Waves the best putter will be determined and honored.

Around 9:00 p.m. we will reach another highlight of the trip, the Corinth Canal, to sail through it under romantic lighting with the Running on Waves.

Only the invention of dynamite and the beginning industrialization in the 19th century made the construction of the canal possible in the years 1881 to 1893. With a length of 6346 m, the canal connects the Saronic Gulf with the Gulf of Corinth. To save the ships the 400 km detour around the Peleponnes, it was necessary to work 84 m deep through the rock. Thus a water depth of about 8 m was reached. The canal bed is about 24.6 m wide and narrows to 21 m at the bottom, while the upper clear width of the terrain cut averages 75 m. The steep walls on the canal at an angle of 71-77 degrees rise up to 79 m in height. Five bridges cross the canal. If at the time of its construction the canal brought enormous relief to navigation, today it has lost its importance because it only allows the passage of smaller ships. Moreover, the bypassing of the Peleponnes is not as dangerous as it used to be, because the routes are much further out to sea and the motorization of ships reduces the time saved by using the canal.

Day 8 Athen

Today we have to say goodbye to our caring and warm crew. At about 7:00 am we reach the port of Piraeus. After breakfast, full of wistfulness and great travel experiences, we will depart individually to Athens airport for our flight home. If you have extended your vacation individually, enjoy a few more days in Athens.

All offered activities are optional and always depend on the daily weather conditions.
